Campcraft

The Campcraft activity is a hands-on experience where students learn the essential skills of setting up and managing a campsite. Guided by experienced instructors, participants will practice pitching tents, creating comfortable sleeping areas, and organising their campsite for safety and efficiency. They’ll also explore key aspects of outdoor living, such as selecting an ideal site, managing waste responsibly, and maintaining respect for the natural environment. This activity not only teaches practical camping skills but also fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and an appreciation for sustainable outdoor practices, setting the stage for an enjoyable and eco-friendly camping experience.

Navigation Skills

At dinner time, students will roll up their sleeves and learn the art of outdoor cooking using camping stoves. Guided by instructors, they’ll prepare and cook their own meals, mastering essential skills like safely operating portable stoves, meal planning for the outdoors, and practicing proper food hygiene in a camping environment. This hands-on activity not only fills hungry bellies after a day of adventure but also fosters independence, responsibility, and teamwork as students collaborate to prepare their shared meal. By the end of the evening, they’ll have gained valuable life skills and a sense of accomplishment, all while enjoying a delicious, self-made dinner under the stars.

The Journey

The 15km journey into Kurth Kiln Regional Park is the highlight of the program, offering students a chance to put their navigation and teamwork skills into action. Winding through diverse landscapes of towering forests, bubbling creeks, and open clearings, the trek immerses participants in the natural beauty of the park. Along the way, they’ll discover local landmarks, including the historic Kurth Kiln itself, a fascinating relic of World War II. This physically rewarding hike challenges students to work together, problem-solve in real-time, and build resilience as they navigate the trails. By the journey’s end, participants will feel a sense of achievement and a deeper connection to the environment around them.

Returning to Base

As the adventure comes to an end, students return to the home base to wrap up their journey by packing away the equipment. Guided by instructors, they’ll clean, sort, and store camping gear, ensuring everything is ready for reuse. This activity emphasises responsibility and the importance of caring for shared resources, teaching students to value sustainable practices. It’s also a chance to reflect on their achievements over the past three days, share stories, and celebrate their growth as a team. By taking part in this final task, students gain an appreciation for the effort behind outdoor adventures and leave with skills and memories to last a lifetime.
