Gilwell Park Begins Major Redevelopment of Campsite Amenity Blocks
Exciting changes are underway at Gilwell Park Adventure Centre as we bid farewell to three of our oldest amenity blocks—Blocks A, B, and D—to make way for a new era of modern, inclusive, and sustainable camping facilities.
For decades, these original blocks have served thousands of Scouts, schools, and community groups, becoming a familiar sight and a core part of the Gilwell camping experience. But with time, expectations change—and so do the needs of the communities we serve. That’s why we’ve made the decision to retire these aging structures and replace them with purpose-built, unisex amenity blocks that reflect the standards and values of the modern world.
The new facilities will include contemporary toilets, hot showers, and accessible features designed to be welcoming and inclusive for all genders and age groups. Built with durability, functionality, and sustainability in mind, these new blocks will provide a vastly improved level of comfort and cleanliness for campers, while still retaining the spirit of outdoor adventure Gilwell is known for.
This investment ensures that Gilwell Park remains a leading destination for outdoor education and adventure, not just for today’s young people—but for future generations. Whether it’s a Scout camp, a school expedition, or a weekend retreat for a local community group, our upgraded facilities will support safe, positive, and memorable camping experiences for all.
The works are already underway, with construction scheduled through to the end of October. During this time, careful planning is in place to manage traffic flow and minimise disruption to our guests, ensuring that Gilwell continues to operate as a safe and welcoming space.
Gilwell Park has always been a place where young people challenge themselves, grow, and connect with the natural world. With these new facilities, we’re proud to take another step forward—keeping that legacy alive while making the outdoors more accessible than ever before.
